The French artistic duo Studio 21bis consists of Romain Demongeot and Laurent LaMotte. They work with artistic and social themes in public and institutional space.

Cardboard is their preferred medium. They consider this the best means of expressing their environmental, cultural and existential reflections.

They produce temporary installations in urban sites that invite the viewer to question the relation between himself and public and private areas. For the Langgata project Studio 21bis  have started from a geopolitical and urbanite map of Sandnes.

Statement
Studio 21bis, with its concern for contemporary artistic and social problems, explores the territory of public and institutional spaces. Romain Demongeot and Laurent Lacotte have discovered that cardboard, their preferred medium, best expresses their environmental, cultural and existential reflexions. With cardboard, they can create ephemeral and unusual settings in urban spaces that question our relationship with both public and private spaces. They play with the codes and symbols of architecture, creating surprise and critical curiosity with the apparition of their structures that participate in the collective thought and imagination. For example, their fragile cardboard shacks which carry a stinging criticism of housing and illustrate the problem of exclusion, can now be found in many cities across Europe where they play a vital role in the definition of the «architecture of urgency». Different outputs (such as photos and videos) record the reporting of the experience.

Romain Demongeot and Laurent Lacotte were both born in 1980 and now live and work in Paris. Both graduated from Art Schools in the south of France and have been working as a duo for nearly ten years.
